Upcoming Projects

November 1st: Mass Exchange, Fall 2010

30 participants.

This is the seasonal mass postcard exchange.  All members on the participant list make 30 postcards to send to the permanent collection as well as everyone taking part in the exchange.

September 1st: Constructed Narrative

20 participants.

Once the list of participants is finalized, it will be rearranged into a random sequence.

A member makes two copies of a postcard.  One copy is sent to the Collective’s permanent collection, while another is sent to the next person on the list of participants.   The next person then continues the narrative by constructing a new postcard in response. The chain continues until all participants on the list have contributed.  The resulting postcards will be displayed together on the Collective website.

June 1st: Exquisite Corpse, Round 1

20 participants.

Exquisite Corpse was a surrealist exercise developed by André Breton in the 1920s. It is a process in which artists contribute to various portions of a piece of paper to create a full image. Examples of the Exquisite Corpse can be found here.

We will be applying these principles to a postcard exchange. The project will begin with a single postcard sent to the Postcard Collective, which will be scanned. The next person on the participant list will receive a small sample of the neighboring cards’ borders; the task for each artist is to create a postcard whose edges will connect with the sample borders provided. When all postcards are assembled together, they will form a single, complete image.

Participants will have one week after the sample is emailed to notify the group that his/her postcard has been sent back to the Collective; otherwise the assignment will be passed on to someone else.

August 1st: Mass Exchange, Summer 2010
